Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Statement

The Rowan County United Way mission reflects our fundamental belief that all people belong and deserve fairness, justice and inclusivity. Our mission is to lead the community mobilizing resources making a lasting impact for those in need and shape a better future for everyone.

We believe that all individuals enhance our work and culture because of their identity or difference. We do not discriminate against anyone’s socio-economic class; age; disability; race, ethnicity or nationality; gender; gender identity and expression; sexual orientation; religion and worship practices; education; veteran or military status; family or caregiver responsibilities; personal appearance; genetic information; or political affiliation. It is through cultural competency and responsiveness that we work to ensure such factors no longer predict success in our community.

We believe through intentional, united action that we create change, make sustained progress, and elevate all voices in our community. We believe that every individual in our community provides valuable experience, perspective, and insight. It is because of this understanding that we can advance our mission and progress for all Rowan County citizens.

We value the visible and invisible qualities that make the individual who they are.

We welcome every person who brings a unique perspective and experience to advance our mission and progress for all Rowan County citizens.

We believe that each United Way community member, donor, volunteer, advocate, and employee must have equal access to solving community problems.

We strive to include diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at the center of our daily work.

We commit to using these practices for our business and our communities.

We therefore challenge our community to hold our organization accountable as we strive to create an environment that is non-discriminatory, actively non-racist, socially competent, compassionate, and kind. We are committed to addressing any such discrimination through our non-discrimination and code of ethics policy.
