The HUB: A Center For Collaboration

Rowan Connected:

The Hub Initiative

Rowan County thrives on connection individuals, organizations, and communities working together to create opportunities and overcome challenges. The HUB represents a bold new vision for the future of Rowan County: a centralized space where nonprofits and community service organizations collaborate to make life better for all.

Rowan Connected: The HUB Initiative is a transformative effort to renovate and revitalize the historic Oestreicher Building at 122 S. Main Street in downtown Salisbury into a vibrant, shared home for those driving meaningful change. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and accessibility, The HUB will connect Rowan County’s resources and people to create pathways for growth, resilience, and opportunity.

Community centers like the HUB are the way of the future for non profits.

The Need

Despite a rich history of collaboration, many of Rowan County’s nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses operate independently, often addressing similar issues without coordination. This fragmentation leads to service gaps and duplications, diminishing the overall impact on our community. A recent survey revealed that 53% of over 80 local nonprofits expressed a need for space and shared resources.

Collaborative spaces are proven to alleviate these hurdles by promoting synergy among organizations. The HUB aims to provide affordable, below-market-rate leasing options to local non-profits, equipping them with the necessary resources to address our community’s most pressing needs effectively.

THE VISION

The HUB will transform the historic Oestreicher Building into a modern, inclusive, and functional space featuring:

The HUB Initiative

Economic Development, Cost Savings, Collaboration

The HUB provides a host of shared resources, such as board and meeting rooms, utilities, internet and phone services, printing, and a receptionist. Sharing these resources reduces overhead costs for all partners, allowing them to channel more money into their programs and services.

Working in closer proximity helps nonprofits recognize where their services overlap, leading to the elimination of wasteful duplicated services. By sharing resources, ideas, and concepts, nonprofits can better innovate to solve problems and address gaps in current services.

Multiple nonprofits serving hundreds of individuals and families will be housed in the HUB. The staff and clients from these organizations will likely frequent other downtown businesses, thereby enhancing the economic wellbeing of our downtown. The HUB will be adding 40-45 employees to Downtown Salisbury.

Downtown Redevelopment Project

The Oestreicher Building, located in central downtown on Main Street, is currently standing empty. The HUB will breathe life back into this building, transforming 2,400 sq. ft from an empty shell to a vibrant center of partnership, growth, and community engagement.
