“Into The Light” Suicide and Mental Health Awareness Walk to Benefit Rowan County United Way

Aug 21, 2018 | News

On Saturday, September 21, Rowan County United Way will start their Into The Light suicide and mental health awareness walk. The agency will return to the Sunrise Run 5K next year, but made the change this year to provide support for one of their top priority areas: mental health. Findings from their 2018 Needs Assessment determined mental health to be among the three most pressing needs in the community along with substance abuse and healthy lifestyle behaviors. They are transitioning to a new Community Impact funding model, which will address these issues by setting measurable and sustainable results for programs to meet.

The walk will begin at 6:30 A.M. in Downtown Salisbury with registration starting at 5:30 A.M. Early registration is available through September 20 at www.sportoften.com or by calling the United Way office at 704-633-1802. The entry fee for the event is $25 for pre-registered participants and $30 on the day of the walk. Each participant will receive a t-shirt. When the walk is completed, breakfast and a short program will follow featuring David Whisenant of WBTV News. This event will be at the Wallace Forum located at 500 N Main St, Salisbury, NC 28144. In addition to the title sponsor, Innospec, other sponsors for Into The Light include Novant Health, City of Salisbury, Cheerwine and Chick-fil-A. The Salisbury Police, Fire and Utility Departments will provide their services as well.
